Safety is crucial in a research environment. The Center for Genome Engineering’s Health & Safety Facility supports researchers working in LMO facilities and science and technology laboratories to create a safe research environment and prevent accidents.
Specifically, the health & safety officer is responsible for introducing new researchers to safe working practices related to biosafety, chemical safety and laser safety. The officer provides guidance on how to store chemicals and biological substances correctly and ensures that all safety guidelines are observed. Furthermore, advice is also provided in regard to any questions that researchers may have about the transport of hazardous substances, lab safety equipment, maternity protection, and the handling of new and potentially dangerous processes.
