Center for Genome Engineering
The main idea of regenerative medicine is to generate solid organs from patient’s pluripotent stem cells for the organ replacement therapy. The generation of reliable and proper organs in vitro, however, has never been successful so far mainly because it requires the complicated cell-to-cell interactions in vivo during the organ development.
We are focusing on the development of appropriate schemes and optimizations for the successful organ regeneration. We aim to generate the donor ES or iPS cell-derived solid organs in xenogenic animals using the RGEN system. We are testing this experimental scheme in various animal model systems and trying to establish the basic technology on regenerative medicine studies.
